The Stable – Adapted ground floor twin bedroom

We had great fun horsing around with when we decorated The Stable bedroom!

Just off the main hallway, the bedroom and en-suite have been designed and furnished with guests who have limited mobility in mind. It has level access to the whole of the ground floor and gardens.

The two electronically operated single beds have a variety of easy-to-use keypad controls to raise / lower parts of the bed and make getting in and out, or sitting up in bed easier.

The beds need to be made up as singles to benefit from the electric adaptations.

The room can be made up as a regular double, if access to the beds’ electric facilities are not required. 

The en-suite, is very spacious with underfloor heating and vinyl cushion flooring.

It comprises:

  • Large walk-in shower with handrails and shower seat.
  • Washbasin  – chosen and installed with wheelchair-users in mind (ie. without a pedestal or vanity unit ). There is also a heated towel rail.
  • ‘Comfort height’ toilet – not quite as low as standard models – with handrail to assist in standing up / sitting down.
  • Heated towel rail.

The Story

We have named all our highly individual bedrooms to reflect the rich farming heritage of Duke’s Lodge at Earsham Park Farm.

Although The Stable bedroom in not located in any original stable buildings but rather within the house itself, we felt that this was the right bedroom – set on the ground floor – to choose to doff our Norfolk cap to the farm’s horse-rearing past.

In Victorian times, Earsham Park Farm was a famed supplier of horses for the Hackney carriages which transported folk around the streets of London. But why was this so feasible and how did the horses make the journey to London? The clue’s in the name of the road which runs along the valley below the farm…
